NICTD Double Track
Bettering rail infrastructure across Northern Indiana.
Bettering rail infrastructure across Northern Indiana.
This project involved adding 16.9 miles of second track to Northern Indiana’s commuter rail system. The enhancements included constructing four new bridges, eight platforms, parking facilities, and replacing the single street-running tracks in Michigan City with two new, separate ballasted tracks.
MRS’ scope included designing the signal and communications systems, as well as furnishing, installing, and testing the communications systems on an electrified system. This work spanned 155 locations across three segments, ensuring comprehensive coverage and functionality.
The project encompassed installing a control point, crossings, signal houses, and Siemens GCE 5000s with PSO cases to activate the crossings. Additionally, it included configuring five hand-throw/electric lock cases and six cantilevers for both crossings and signals. The team also installed 10 fiber communication houses and equipped 4 platforms with cameras, TVMs, speakers, and VMS signage to create a modern, efficient network that meets NICTD’s needs.
