Modern Railway systems' predecessor company, Rail Systems Solutions, is established in 2001 offering safe and effective signaling solutions.
Our team implements TDX, our proprietary communications system, on the FrontRunner North commuter rail line. Since this first implementation, TDX has been integrated and implemented for multiple clients in the transportation market.
Rail Systems Solutions is acquired by Stacy Witbeck becoming Modern Railway Systems.
Modern Railway Systems expands to Washington with Sound Transit's University Link light rail project and continues our strong relationship with Utah Transit Authority, winning our first streetcar project.
This year brings many new wins to the team, including major projects in Northern California, Michigan, Colorado, Texas, and in Canada.
We begin work on our first Positive Train Control (PTC) project for TriMet in Oregon, being the first to have successfully implemented Enhanced-Automatic Train Control in the United States.
We are awarded the Mid-Coast Corridor Project in San Diego and Modern Manufacturing joins the team, a custom manufacturer specializing in precision metal fabrications for railroads and transportation systems across North America.
We are awarded our first electrification project for Caltrain and expand into Arizona on a light rail project for Valley Metro.
We expand our presence in Texas, winning the Capital Metro PTC project. Modern Railway Systems acquires an industry leading communications provider, Rail Services Corporation, establishing Modern Communications Systems.
We continue to grow our success winning the Brightline Zone 3 Project in Florida and new projects for Amtrak, SMART, RTD, Valley Metro, and Utah Transit Authority.
We expand our presence in the northwest with Sound Transit’s Downtown Redmond Link Extension and Federal Way Extensions projects and TriMet’s Steel Bridge Signals and Communications project.
Our team integrates all operations under the Modern Railway Systems name to provide a complete systems services company across the transportation industry.

MRS is selected as part of the team on Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority's first two progressive design-build projects.
The company converts to a 100% ESOP model, providing all employees a stake of ownership within the company.
The first regional office in Chicago opens. MRS launches a new logo and rebranding to better reflect its position within the industry.
