Gilbert Road Light Rail Extension
Supporting systems and traction power for a critical light rail extension.
Supporting systems and traction power for a critical light rail extension.
This project involved a 1.9-mile light rail extension on Main Street, extending from Mesa Drive to Gilbert Road. The scope of work included constructing stations, two traction power substations, an operator's facility, a new transit center station, and a park-and-ride lot.
MRS was responsible for the traction power substations, signal systems, Overhead Catenary Systems, and wayside equipment. Our work encompassed furnishing, installing, testing, and commissioning the CCTV, SCADA, PA, VMS, CTS, intrusion, and communication cabinets.
A unique feature of this project was constructing a roadway roundabout that the light rail runs through. This is only the second project in the U.S. with such an interface, requiring complex train and traffic signaling design, as well as updates to underground utilities and traffic signals.
