Metra - Morgan Interlocking
Modern systems for one of America's iconic transit providers.
Modern systems for one of America's iconic transit providers.
This project will assist Metra in retiring an outdated non-vital communication system and replacing it with state-of-the-art processors housed in a new, non-vital signal house. The project involves the careful decommissioning and removal of legacy equipment that has been in service for decades, ensuring a seamless transition to the new MRS-designed and furnished system. This process includes dismantling old hardware, safely disposing of obsolete components, and meticulously planning the integration of new technology to avoid any disruption to existing rail operations.
The new signal house will be equipped with a local control panel, a maintainer’s panel, and other advanced technological features that the current system lacks. These modern upgrades will enhance the reliability, efficiency, and maintainability of the signal system.
Additionally, a key feature of this project is to implement track, signal, and switch indication visibility at the Metra Central Control Facility. This enhancement will cover the section of track between Chicago Union Station and the Morgan Interlocking, providing centralized monitoring and control capabilities to improve operational efficiency and safety. Real-time track condition and switch position visibility will allow for more responsive and informed decision-making, ultimately leading to a safer and more efficient rail network.
