MAX Red Line Extension

Overview
This project interconnected several major scopes, including double tracking the Red Line from Portland International Airport (PDX), rebuilding the airport station, adding double track and constructing a new station at the Gateway Transit Center with a bridge over I-84, and extending Red Line service from the Beaverton Transit Center to the Fairplex Station with new track, switches, and signal improvements.

Scope of Work
Modern Railway Systems (MRS) was responsible for designing, installing, and testing the train control system scopes for the Gateway, PDX, and Fairplex segments. This work included integrating new train control equipment, updating system logic, and ensuring seamless communication between new and existing infrastructure.

Impact
These upgrades improved operational efficiency, increased system capacity, and strengthened connectivity across Portland’s transit network, supporting more reliable and resilient service.
