Federal Way Link Extension
Strengthening system services for a rapidly expanding transit network.
Strengthening system services for a rapidly expanding transit network.
This project was a 7.8-mile light rail extension on the Sound Transit Link network, with MRS responsible for the communications, radio, and signal systems work.
MCS provided engineering and commissioning services for the Communications Subsystems across three stations, three garages, and two ancillary buildings. In addition to these facilities, MCS also delivered the Communications Subsystems for Traction Power Substations, provided by our partner MEC, Signal Bungalows, provided by MRS, as well as Emergency Access Points and Trackway Intrusion Detection equipment along the wayside.
The Communication Subsystems within our scope included Closed-Circuit Television, Emergency and Back-of-House Phones, Audio and Visual Public Address Systems, Access Control, Radio Systems, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition for Train Control, Building Management, and Emergency Ventilation.
A key distinction of this project, compared to previous Sound Transit projects MCS has worked on, was that all communications racks and cabinets for the provided subsystems were built and wired in Denver.
This work ensures seamless integration and enhanced connectivity for Sound Transit's expanding network. The Federal Way Link Extension extended Link Light Rail from Angle Lake, WA, to Federal Way, WA.
