UTA’s West Valley Light Rail Transit extension began revenue service August 7, 2011. The extension was completed a year ahead of schedule and approximately 20 percent under budget. RSS was responsible to design, furnish, and install this extension in Salt Lake City, Utah. The extension includes five miles of mixed urban and suburban double track tie and ballast construction with four new stations, a significant bridge structure over an active railroad yard, five new interlockings, two cut sections and seven grade crossings between the existing TRAX System with the terminal of the new line near West Valley City Hall. March of 2008 RSS was part of a CM/GC (Construction Manager/General Contractor) team that was selected to design furnish and install this extension in Salt Lake City, Utah. As part of the CMGC process, RSS participated as a full team member with UTA, its designers and the CM/GC contractor team, led by SWI, to assist in developing project budgets, schedules and undertaking value engineering tasks.
