MRS and our partner MJG, Inc. as part of a CM/GC (Construction Manager/General Contractor) team, were responsible to design, furnish, and install the Airport Light Rail Transit system extension in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Downtown to Airport TRAX line is approximately six miles of mixed urban and suburban double track construction, running from the northern terminus of the existing North-South Light Rail line at the Arena Station, to the Salt Lake City International Airport. There are six new stations with one park and ride lot and one significant structure over an active double track freight and commuter rail corridor. The extension includes three intermediate locations, four crossings, and six interlockings. A complex and challenging half-grand tie-in to the existing LRT system was required. The tie-in was planned for a short service shutdown to accommodate demolition and new track, OCS, and signaling construction. The Airport extension began revenue service in 2012.
